Autumn Greetings and Acorn Cookies

Autumn Greetings and Acorn Cookies
Fall and any season for that matter is a great time for baking. The smell of pumpkin spice in baked goods is heavenly. I love the season from the cooler weather to the gorgeous colors of the leaves and fall décor everywhere you look. It just makes me happy. Here are some Autumn Greetings and Acorn Cookies I made. You can get the pumpkin spice and royal icing from the Pumpkin Spice Cookies: Heirloom Pumpkins, Squash and Gourds post. To make the Autumn Greetings wafer paper cookies, get the tutorial in my previous Sunflower Cookies post. Thankfully, in the last few days the humidity has gone and we welcome cooler weather. I hope we stay on this weather path as I am so sick of the heat. I am ready to wear sweaters, and snuggle with my blanket. I hope you all enjoy fall.

To make the acorns, I used Wilton Soft Gel Paste Food Color in Brown. To make the lighter tan shade, I used 2 drops and for the dark brown I used 3 drops and 1 drop of super black.

I first made a border and filled the stem and then the body of the cookie with the lighter tan color (see pics below), and let it dry for 2-3 hours.

Cookies for the Autumn Greetings Wafer Paper Designs
I used the dark brown to make the top of the acorn and let it dry for 2-3 hours and then made a criss-cross design and added white sanding sugar while the icing was wet.

Use the tan shade to make the stems and body
Gently shake off excess sugar.

Wait a few hours and fill in icing with the darker brown
Let the acorn cookies dry overnight.
