Buffalo Wild Wings

Buffalo Wild Wings

We have Buffalo Wild Wings in our neighborhood and have gone a few times and really enjoyed everything we ordered. If you love sports and wings this place is for you to come with your friends or family or both. For your wings there are many sauces to choose from, 16 in fact and 5 seasonings so you can make endless combinations. The menu is diverse: salads, tacos, burgers, quesadillas, sandwiches, wraps and plenty of side dishes that include fries, mac n cheese, fried pickles, onion rings, slaw, chips and salsa, and more. Don't forget the luscious desserts and if you so desire, there are libations as well.

Chicken Wings with Asian Zing Sauce and Potato Wedges

Allen's Mac & Cheese

We shared an order of Fried Pickles
When we order wings we like the sauce on the side to dip the chicken wings into, but you can order to your preference. The first time we went we both ate chicken wings and ordered a bunch of different sauces on the side. Allen ordered 2 spicy sauces and I went for a mild one. The wings are crispy when you bite into them and so juicy inside. Dipping the sauce makes each bite super yummy. The fried pickles were crunchy and tangy. Allen said his mac & cheese was so creamy and cheesy.

Rocking my new tee - Life is What You Bake It
We went to Buffalo Wild Wings a few weeks ago and Allen ordered the Signature Sampler and I order a Chicken Sandwich with Potato Wedges. You can customize the Sampler and choose whatever sauces you want. This is a fun way to try different sauces each time you go working your way through the menu selection.

We always have a fun time when we go to Buffalo Wild Wings. The food never disappoints, and we look forward to going again in the near future to try out more wing combinations.

Smashburger

Smashburger

Allen's Bacon Cheeseburger

Sophia's Classic Smash
Smashburger opened in our neighborhood a few weeks ago and on Friday we we went there for burger night. I never had Smashburger before and I was quite pleased with the Certified Angus Beef burger and great taste.

Allen's Smash Fries

Sophia's French Fries
I ordered the big Classic Smash with american cheese, smash sauce, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions on an egg burn with large French Fries. The burger was juicy and the Angus taste, sublime. It was burger heaven for me. I love the french fries, which are thin cut with a little crispy bite and soft inside.

Allen's Bacon Cheeseburger with Smash Fries

Sophia's Classic Smash with French Fries
Allen ordered the big Bacon Cheeseburger with Applewood smoked bacon, american cheese, mustard, ketchup, pickles and onions on an egg bun. The bacon was superb and the burger juicy and full of that Angus beef taste us carnivores crave. Allen opted for the large Smash Fries with olive oil, rosemary and garlic and he loved them. I will try these fries next time. Allen said the Smash Fries were really yummy and could taste each of the ingredients.

Allen super excited to have Cholula on the table

Sophia's Classic Smash with lots of ketchup :)
I like that Smashburger have servers to clean the tables and our server was really attentive and more than once asked if we needed anything. Allen and I experienced great customer service and a manager even came up to us and told us about doing a survey online (info was printed on the receipt) and you get free fries on our next visit. We told him we would return next week and we will. Smashburger surpasses other fast food burger joints in Riverdale, and we appreciate having them in our neighborhood.

Chipotle Mexican Grill

Chipotle Mexican Grill

Steak Burritos
Chipotle Mexican Grill opened up just a few weeks ago in our neighborhood. This is a great thing for us since we used to travel into Manhattan on movie night to eat there. Last week, we ate at Chipotle and ordered the same thing, steak burritos. Each of our burritos was packed with the following: cilantro-lime white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa (mild) and (hot) for Allen, and sour cream. Allen asked for the house hot sauce and he also added extra Tabasco Chipotle, so his burrito was super spicy.

Allen getting ready to add more hot sauce to his steak burrito
The ingredients are fresh, Non-GMO and everything tastes great. I smothered extra guacamole and salsa from our tortilla chips on my burrito. We also ordered freshly made tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. Next time we go we will try something new. Our customer service experience was pleasant and the place was crowded. It is cool having Chipotle walking distance from where we live.

Siam Square Thai Cuisine

Siam Square Thai Cuisine
Left-Allen's spicy soup Tom Yum Koong, right-(top) Chicken Satay and (bottom) Allen's Kanom Jeeb dumplings
Tonight we had dinner with family to celebrate our nephew's upcoming study abroad six-month trip to South America. We are so very proud of him! Allen and me have never eaten here and were looking forward to it. Siam Square has received excellent ratings from Zagat, and the restaurant is cozy and very well known in Riverdale. The food did not disappoint and we loved everything we ate. The cuisine is authentic Thai and you can adjust your food to have a little or lots of heat. We will surely return here and I grabbed the takeout menu on the way out.

For an appetizer, my brother ordered us all a large order of Satay, skewered chicken tenders marinated in Thai spices with peanut sauce and cucumber ajad on the side. I had one and it was yummy. The peanut sauce had a nice creamy texture and the cucumber ajad was refreshing.

Allen shared his appetizer Kanom Jeeb with his nephew. These are steamed Thai dumplings with ground pork and shrimp. They both loved it. Allen ordered Tom Yum Koong, a spicy soup with shrimp, mushrooms and onions seasoned with lemongrass and lime juice with a spicy shrimp broth. Allen loved the heat level and robust taste of the soup.

My Pad Preow Wham and Allen's spicy Drunken Chicken
For my main course, I stayed on the mild side and ordered Pad Preow Whan with beef and pineapples, cucumber, tomatoes and assorted vegetables in a Thai sweet and sour sauce. What I loved was the combination of all the ingredients and the beef was perfectly seasoned. The sauce was not too sweet either and had a perfect balance of flavor. It was served with steamed jasmine rice.

For Allen's main course, he ordered a spicy dish Drunken Chicken. It was minced chicken breast sauteed with string beans, sweet peppers in a spicy chili-basil sauce with jasmine rice. Allen loved the heat level and asked the waitress for some Thai Chili Sauce and we both ate some with our food.

I ordered a mild dish for my Mom Pad Kana, pork sauteed with broccoli, sweet peppers and garlic in a mild garlic sauce. She really liked it. Everyone enjoyed their dinner course. For dessert, I ordered Coconut Mousse for my Mom and we ended up sharing it. It was refreshing and very light and creamy. The fruit was a great pairing and nice way to end the meal.

It was great to have dinner time and great food with my family.

Estrellita Poblana V Restaurant

Estrellita Poblana V Restaurant

Allen's Enchiladas Suizas
It is not easy to find a Mexican restaurant that offers authentic Mexican cuisine in New York, but Estrellita Poblana in Riverdale (Bronx, NY) lives up to its claim. Before going to the restaurant, Allen and me ordered takeout and loved the food. Allen's cousin Rob was in town so Allen thought it would be a great restaurant to go dine in. We went to Estrellita Poblana V with Rob, his lovely daughter and her Mom.

Chips, Salsa and Guacamole
Estrellita Poblana is a small but cozy and inviting restaurant. The decor is nice and the restaurant was packed. Every single table was taken and there was a line waiting to be seated by the time we left. On Fridays, they have Mariachi Aguila de Plata performing from 7:00-9:00PM, which makes it a very festive and loud place. We ate there yesterday so we got to experience Mariachi and had to talk real loud to hear ourselves, but we had a great time. The menu is big and it took awhile for some of us (ahem, Robert) to decide what to order. There are also Daily Specials offered in addition to the fine menu selections.

Milanesa De Res
I ordered the Milanesa De Res (Breaded Steak) served with Frijoles Negros (Black Beans), Arroz (Mexican Rice) and Corn Tortillas. You get a generous serving and the food was some of the best tasting Mexican I have had aside from some Northern California restaurants I love. The seasoning on the Breaded Steak had bold flavors, but was not spicy and I ate it all. The Mexican Rice was seasoned perfectly and the Black Beans were superb. The Corn Tortillas were brought out in a Tortilla Warmer Basket. I rolled up some of my food in one of the Corn Tortillas and it was a perfect combination. Each table gets condiments Green Chile and Red Chile sauces, sliced pickled Jalapenos with Red Onions, sliced Cucumber and Lime to share and add to your food.

Green and Red Chile Sauce, Pickled Jalapeno and Onions, Cucumber, Lime
Allen ordered Enchiladas Suizas, Bistec (Steak) rolled in three soft Corn Tortillas in a creamy Chile Poblano Sauce, topped with sliced Red Onions, and Frijoles Negros (Black Beans) and Arroz (Mexican Rice). Allen loved the taste of the creamy Chile Poblano Sauce and the flavor of the authentic Mexican Rice. The Steak was finely chopped and seasoned well, but not spicy and the Black Beans were great.

We ordered Guacamole and it was one of the best we have eaten. The Guacamole was fresh and you could taste all the ingredients. The in-house Salsa served with the Corn Tortilla Chips was tangy and had a tinge of spice. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was real nice to spend time with family.

We recommend Estrellita Poblana V Restaurant if you want to experience great Mexican cuisine.

Louie's Dale Diner

Louie's Dale Diner

Louie's Dale Diner
Louie's Dale Diner are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week so you can go whenever you desire. If you live in Riverdale, Louie's Dale Diner have free delivery and an extensive menu to choose from. When Allen and me do not feel like cooking or I need a burger fix, we go there or order takeout and have never been disappointed.

Big Dale Classic Burger with Cheddar Cheese
On this recent trip to Louie's Dale Diner, I ordered the Big Dale Classic Burger with cheddar cheese, onions, lettuce and tomatoes with french fries, and pickles and coleslaw on the side. As if the 7 oz. burger wasn't big enough, this Big Dale burger was huge! It was so juicy and cooked a perfect medium, which is how I wanted it! The french fries are really good too!

Allen and his little friend, Tabasco!
Our waiter was very friendly and helpful and that is important for us. She told us all the specials and answered all our questions. If the service sucks anywhere we eat, we won't be back. The service here surpasses other diners in the area, and the food is genuinely good and hearty. The menu is large, so there is an abundance to choose from and portion sizes are great!

Pacific Omelet and Home Fries
Allen ordered the Pacific Omelet, which is fresh roasted turkey breast, avocado, mushrooms, broccoli and cheese with home fries and rye toast. You can choose hash browns or grits as well. Allen thought the Pacific Omelet was great, and the roasted turkey breast was tender and flavorful and complimented the avocado and other ingredients. Allen used Tabasco on the Pacific Omelet and home fries for extra kick and boost of flavor.

Desserts
Like most standard diners, you pay on the way out and this was where my eyes feasted upon desserts galore. I was so full but next time I come, I must try a slice of cake or a piece of pie! If you order dessert from the takeout menu, they will let you know which selections are available for the day as they are baked fresh daily. If you happen to be visiting Riverdale, you gotta check out Louie's Dale Diner. If you already live in the area, you should know all about them. If not, please give Louie's Dale Diner a try - you will not be disappointed!

Out And About in Riverdale

Out And About in Riverdale

Plank-Baked Steelhead Trout
On Sunday, June 30, we went to the Riverdale Riverfest (please see our coverage from last year,
http://twofrys.blogspot.com/2012/07/riverdale-riverfest-2012.html) to check out the food vendors. Featured below are vendors we tried. Sadly, Riverdale Riverfest was not the grandiose event it was last year which drew about 5,000 people. This year, there were just hundreds of people, less vendors and the location was moved to another lawn close to the waterway in the College of Mount Saint Vincent. It started raining around 3pm, so we left after a few hours.

As soon as we got off the shuttle bus, we saw some beautiful Plank-Baked Steelhead Trout cooking on hundred year old oak planks. Free samples were given out by the Hudson River Foundation. Allen had a sample and said it tasted great. The Steelhead Trout had a nice smoky flavor from the oak planks and the charcoal.

Liebman's Deli
Liebman's Deli
We both got a Hot Dog from Liebman's, a Riverdale staple providing the community with a great selection of Kosher foods. I hear the Pastrami sandwich is amazing and will need to go eat there soon and try it. The Hot Dog had a nice, crisp pop when we bit into them. Liebman's has a great menu selection to eat in or take out and offer free delivery in Riverdale and catering as well.

VSPOT
VSPOT
I was curious to try an Empanada from VSPOT featuring Vegan, Latin and Kosher cuisine. I ordered a Columbian Empanada and Allen a Philly Cheese Empanada. The Columbian Empanada was made with potato, carrot, onion, corn, cilantro and Latin seasoned seitan. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I tasted all the ingredients and they went so well together with the seitan. I almost ordered a second one but had to leave room for dessert. Allen was very happy with the taste of the Philly Cheese Empanada made with homemade seitan, vegan Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. Like my Empanada, Allen said he tasted each ingredient and said it was satisfying, fresh and packed with flavor.

Lloyd's Carrot Cake
Lloyd's Carrot Cake
I was full after eating my Columbian Empanada from VSPOT, but I bought a slice of Red Velvet Cake from Lloyd's Carrot Cake. I should have tried something different since I got the same cake last year, but I couldn't resist the Red Velvet, which is my favorite. I enjoyed every bite of this rich and moist cake. It was wonderful and satisfying. Lloyd's Carrot Cake make a vast selection of cakes like their famous Carrot Cake, German Chocolate and Red Velvet Cake, pies and cupcakes. Lloyd's Carrot Cake are one of Riverdale's prized location for all things sweet.

Riverdale Riverfest is held to promote the Hudson River Greenway Link, which would include a walking and biking trail that will connect the existing Hudson River Greenway in Manhattan to the Westchester Greenway in Yonkers. Hopefully this will happen in the near future.

Riverdale Y Sunday Market

Yesterday, Allen and me went to The Riverdale Y Sunday Market to pick up some veggies and fruits and we ended up with a lot more as you will see below. The market is every Sunday from 9:00AM - 2:00PM at MS/HS 141, Independence Avenue & West 237th Street. We encourage residents of the Riverdale community to shop the market and support the vendors.
