Autumn Leaves Cookies

Autumn Leaves Cookies
I love fall and leaves of all shapes, sizes and their various colors. Stepping on leaves and hearing the crunching sound is fun and jumping into a pile of leaves is too. To honor the beauty of the season, I made Autumn Leaves Cookies. I used a pumpkin spice recipe and royal icing from, Pumpkin Spice Cookies: Heirloom Pumpkins, Squash and Gourds. I used various leaf cutters I purchase as I find them online for variation and depth.

For this cookie project, I used the following Wilton Soft Gel Paste Food Colors: Golden Yellow, Brown, Orange, and Juniper Green.

Pretty Leaves

Marbling technique used on the large leaves
I had some trouble when I used the Burgundy color. It was this ugly dark pink color, so I added 2 drops of Super Red and 1 drop of Super Black to achieve the shade I needed.

When tinting royal icing always use 1-2 drops at a time.

I used sprinkles in different colors to enhance the designs and give them a sparkle.

Cookies have to try overnight!
You can also use white sanding sugar if you do not have sprinkles in different colors.

I used Wilton's scribe tool to make the marbling designs on the large leaf cookies. I use different colors and applied each one by going around the cookie alternating colors until the cookie is flooded. While the icing was wet, I dragged the scribe tool across to the edge. Each time you do this wipe the scribe tool before dragging again. Repeat until you have the design you want.

Enjoy!
